Go Orange After Dark off campus

Orange After Dark programs hosted off campus let students have fun on weekend nights without spending a lot of money.

Orange After Dark is late-night programming that offers healthy, safe, and fun events for students on weekend nights. Originally started by the Office of Residence Life at Syracuse University in 2010, the Orange After Dark committee was formed to create alternative programming for a low price in order to make it accessible to the greatest number of students.

The Office of Residence Life started large-scale programming because smaller scale programs were already happening within the residence halls such as “Day at Night,” late-night educational and fun programming in Day Hall. Some of the Orange After Dark events included snow tubing at Greek Peak, midnight movie premieres, Fright Night at the Fair and a dance on the Quad.

Orange After Dark started with programming just a few times throughout the semester, but because of its success, it has grown with the help of other offices such as the Office of Student Activities and Recreational Services. These offices help create more programs and apply for co-curricular funding from the Residence Hall Association in order to make better programs. Orange After Dark hopes to provide programming at least twice a month, and often more. The programs start at the beginning of each semester and go through finals. The fall 2012 semester will end with a midnight pancake breakfast to help students relieve stress before finals.

All Orange After Dark events are $6 or less, and include round-trip transportation from Schine Student Center and Goldstein Student Center. The events are often off-campus to show students what the city of Syracuse has to offer, while promoting healthy behavior and an environment to meet new people.

More information on Orange After Dark can be found on its website, including future events and pricing, as well as promotional videos featuring “Orange After Dark Man,” SU’s newest super hero.
