In a back and forth contest that showed no clear advantage for a majority of the game, Syracuse women’s basketball ultimately defended its home court and won 81-74 over Northwestern in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
There were a lot of similarities between this game and previous games for Coach Quentin Hillsman [9]’s team. Sophomore guard Tiana Mangakahia [10] continued her hot form with assists, passing the ball 12 times to lead to Syracuse points. In all seven contests this season, Mangakahia has at least 10 assists.
Junior forward Miranda Drummond [11] had a career day, scoring 29 points. She scored throughout the game, including a 3-pointer in the second quarter to give Syracuse the lead.
With the win, Hillsman’s team is 7-0, having won the Paradise Jam Classic. This is the team’s best start to a season since the 2013-2014 season when it won eight games to open the year.
Syracuse plays its next game against Stony Brook in the Carrrier Dome on Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
