CHESTNUT HILL, MASS. — Syracuse took notes from its windy and rainy game at Wake Forest [13]and used it to their advantage versus Boston College. Syracuse (4-4, 2-2 ACC) survived nine false start penalties to take its second straight win, 28-20.
“We made mistakes, we weren’t perfect but we’re human,” Syracuse head coach Dino Babers [14] said following the game. “We’re excited to be at .500 again.”
Syracuse traveled to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to face Boston College (3-4, 0-4 ACC) in pouring rain and 15 mile per hour winds. The Orange faced poor weather conditions and 15 penalties in the victory.
Referees charged Syracuse with nine false starts and four other penalties for a total loss of 135 yards. One of the earlier penalties was a result of a Boston College interception. William Harris intercepted Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey’s [15] throw and brought it back 60-yards until he was pushed into the Syracuse sideline. Soon after, a scuffle ensued on the sideline and both benches cleared resulting in two penalties.
Syracuse receivers got redemption for the penalties against the offense. Syracuse’s Amba Etta-Tawo [16] sealed the win for the Orange after hauling in a 68-yard touchdown pass from Dungey.
Both SU’s Steve Ishmael [17] and Etta-Tawo surpassed the 100-yard mark in the game. Ishmael finished with 108 receiving yards, while Etta-Tawo accumulated 144, his sixth game of the season with 100 or more yards. Etta-Tawo’s total yardage also put him in the SU record books once again. The wide receiver is now one of four Syracuse players to have 1,000 receiving yards in a single season with four more games to go. He joins the likes of Marvin Harrison (1,131), Alec Lemon (1,070) and Rob Moore (1,064).
After the win against Boston College, Syracuse is now two games away from bowl eligibility with four games remaining in the season.
Syracuse seeks their fifth win following a bye week as they head down to Death Valley to face No. 4 Clemson on November 5.
