The day after a surprising and upsetting presidential election [10] for many on campus, several campus organizations began offering various forms of support and recovery.
On Wednesday evening, Syracuse Uniersity and SUNY-ESF students gathered in vigil outside Hendricks Chapel with candles to "stand against hate."
Additionally, the Office of Off-Campus and Commuter Services [11] opened its space for students who might want to talk or relax throughout the day on Wednesday.
Several local petitions began circulating in response to Donald Trump's presidential victory, including one asking Chancellor Kent Syverud to declare the university's solidarity [12] with refugees and other marginalized groups. The petition has gained over 600 signatures so far.
National petitions calling for an alternative to a Trump presidency have also been circulating on social media, and city streets across the U.S. have been filled with protesters in response to the election results.
