Justyn Knight won the men's NCAA cross country championship on Saturday with a time of 29 minutes and .1 seconds. This is Knight's first NCAA championship, and the first Syracuse individual championship in the school's history.
Knight, a senior from Vaughan, Ontario, was consistently in the top ten racers, gradually speeding up and passing oppositon. Towards the final leg of the race, Knight separated himself from the pack, beating out Northern Arizona's Matthew Baxter by .7 seconds.
In the team event, Syracuse finished in 13th place with 406 cumulative points. The next quickest Orange finisher was senior Connie Bennie, who finished in 56th place.
The women's side of the race also saw historic milestones. Senior Paige Stoner finished 17th place, earning All-American status. She is the highest placed women runner in Syracuse history and the second to earn All-American status in team history.
