The Syracuse cross country team ran its last regular season race on Friday at the John Reif Memorial at Cornell University, the last meet before the ACC Championship next weekend.
No team score was kept, and many upperclassmen didn’t participate, but there were several impressive individual performances for the Orange to build on heading into the biggest race of the season. For the men, promising freshman Kevyn Hoyos [14] took first overall with a time of 24:49.40, and teammate Andrew Bennison [15] followed in second at 24:53.40. Sophomores Juris Silenieks [16] and Joe Kush [17] rounded out the finishes for the Orange, placing fourth and seventh, respectively.
The women’s side continues to improve, a young team gaining momentum at the right time. Sophomore Angelica Peck [18] placed second with a time of 17:44.50, and fellow classmate Beth Wright [19] came in fifth at 18:05.20.
The ACC Championship will be held in Winston-Salem, N.C. next Friday morning. Both the men and women are currently third in the Northeast region and will enter with high expectations.
