Before we get too far into the week, we're taking a moment to remember the week that was: those last few glorius days in the month of March when all this happened.
FROM THE HILL
- Nicki Minaj was temporarily the special guest for this year's block party [10], that is until it was revealed that it was all a big April Fool's joke by us, The NewsHouse. Cruel, right? What you may have missed: our behind-the-scenes look [11] on how it all went down.
- The NewsHouse is making up for it, though. By giving away free stuff all month [12] -- Fridays have the biggest prizes (sorry, no Nicki Minaj tickets though).
- Powerful images came out of the Trayvon Martin "hoodie rally" held at the steps of Hendricks Chapel, seen in this slideshow [13].
STILL IN 'CUSE
- Wegmans was named America's favorite supermarket in a new study by Consumer Reports [14], thought it's not really news to any Syracuse University students.
- Gas prices surpass the depressing $4 dollar a gallon mark [15] in Syracuse.
- Fans of 80s metal hair on light jazz musicians playing the theme to "Titanic" on a saxaphone, rejoice. Kenny G is headlining this year's Syracuse Jazz Festival [16].
IN THE ZEITGEIST
- 54-year-old actor Alec Baldwin proposed to his 28-year-old yoga instructor girlfriend. He then had a Twitter "meltdown" [17] after a reporter visited his new fiance's yoga class. Namaste, Alec.
- Call it the "Jersey Shore" effect: Medical researchers from the Mayo Clinic found that young woman are eight times more likely to have skin cancer [18]. It's not just women; guys' skin cancer rates are up four-fold from 40 years ago.
- Taylor Swift's date to the American Country Music Awards this weekend couldn't go. Eighteen-year-old Kevin McGuire was supposed to attend the awards show with the country star [19], but McGuire -- who's battling cancer -- became too sick to attend. Swift gave McGuire a shout out on stage. The date was planned when the teen cancer patient asked the singer to go to prom.
