Naesean Howard, 20, faces two charges of assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree for the alleged stabbing that took place on Saturday evening.
Syracuse defensive backs Chauncey Scissum [7] and Corey Winfield [8] were the victims of the stabbing. Scissum and Winfield were transported to the hospital separately, and both are expected to make full recoveries.
The arrest came as a result of an investigation into a stabbing complaint at 321 Slocum Heights Drive on Syracuse University's South Campus. Howard was arraigned in city court on Monday and he is currently being held on a $40,000 bond.
Howard left the team in September 2014 but re-enrolled in classes this year. He graduated from West Genesee High School in Camillus before attending Syracuse University.
University officials said Howard has been suspended from Syracuse indefinitely.
"We are aware of this incident, and our focus right now is on supporting our two students as they recover," Syracuse senior vice president of public affairs Kevin Quinn [9] said in a statement. "The accused individual, who knew the victims, has been suspended from the university indefinitely. We do not tolerate any act of violence, and the safety of our campus and community is a top priority."
