A double-header loaded with penalties; the Orange could handle the rough-housing.

Sophomore defenseman Dakota Derrer opened the scoring just 1:39 into the game as Syracuse (11-12-3) avenged Friday’s 2-1 OT loss to the Tigers (6-19-1) with a solid 3-0 victory on Saturday.

“I had a lot of shots blocked last night and I was trying for that not to happen,” Derrer said following the win. “Right off the face-off I got my feet moving, saw an opening, shot the puck [on net], and it trickled in.”

"It's always hard when the first one goes in, especially on the first shot a minute into the game", Orange goalie Jenn Gilligan said after the loss.

The puck past by senior goaltender Jenn Gilligan after the first shot on goal and just 1:08 played, and things rolled on from there as the Orange (5-7-1) were defeated by the Cornell Big Red (2-4-1) at the War Memorial Arena.

First-year player Kaillie Goodnough has the second most points among any Orange defender so far this season.

Kaillie Goodnough, a defenseman for the Syracuse women’s ice hockey team, paused as she thought of how to describe something interesting about herself.

“I live on a farm,” she said. “It’s not what a lot of people expect, but it brought me up well.”

Freshman goalie Kallie Billadeau stuffs UNH during her first start in net.

The Syracuse women's goalie looked like a seasoned veteran in net during Friday night’s game against the No. 8 New Hampshire Wildcats. Kallie Billadeau stopped the puck with all parts of her body and in all situations, even as the Orange faced a 5-on-3 power play--and she did it all in her first collegiate start between the pipes.

The freshman goalie anchored the Syracuse defense en route to a 4-2 victory.  Billadeau’s teammates played well in front of her, but they also helped her mentally prepare for the game.
