WERW

WERW started the spring semester with sounds of Syracuse University favorites Feb. 8.

WERW’s Spring Launch Party jet streamed the largest student-run radio station into a fresh and new semester. The kick-off took place in the Schine Underground Center from 8-10 p.m. and showcased three top-notch acts: campus favorite Charlie Burg, Varsity, and long time friend Vundabar. General Manager Allison Carr was feeling bittersweet describing her role in setting up WERW’s launch party; this would be her last one.

The station, out of service since 2012, celebrated its return to the AM dial by taking over Schine Underground with performances by Forth Wanderers and Overcoats.

Syracuse University’s student-run radio station WERW returned to the airwaves last Friday, and kicked off its return with one of its famous parties in Schine Underground. The highlights of the occasion were the performances by indie musicians Overcoats and Forth Wanderers.

WERW put together their most eclectic show to date, from garage rock to electro-rock-punk to a band made up entirely of Nancy Sinatra clones, this certainly was a bill for an eclectic audience.

Opening the show was Dumb Talk, who played to a sedated crowd, but by the last three songs everyone had shaken off their catatonic states to enjoy the valiant efforts of the band. Dumb Talk recently signed to Miscreant Records, a label formed by Syracuse University student, Jeanette Wall. With a new record pressed, and many upcoming one-off shows, Dumb Talk is giving it the best they can, especially since all of the members are still in college.

Review: Acclaimed Washington indie rockers and lesser-known-but-just-as-entertaining New Hampshire singer-songwriter filled the small venue with big energy on Tuesday.
