Wake Forest

October 18, 2015 - 12:27am
After losing to Wake Forest in last season's ACC Championship, Syracuse came to the field Saturday afternoon with only one thing on mind: Victory.

“Bad blood” was the theme of Saturday's field hockey match between No. 1 Syracuse and No. 6 Wake Forest. It was the first time the teams faced off since Wake Forest defeated Syracuse last year in the ACC Championship. Syracuse came to the field with a mission: to dominate and defeat Wake Forest. Revenge was sweet for the juiced up Orange when they beat Wake Forest 6-0.

Freshman quarterback Eric Dungey did just enough to help his team, but it was the Orange defense that stood out.

On Saturday afternoon, the Carrier Dome was the place to be as the Syracuse Orange and Wake Forest Demon Deacons squared off. Both teams were fresh off impressive victories in their season opener, but, in the end, it was the home team who left feeling good about the outcome and overcoming a lackluster first-half to corral a 30-17 victory.

After blowout victories in Week 1, the Syracuse Orange and Wake Forest Demon Deacons will face-off at the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon.

It was a great start to the season for the Syracuse Orange and Wake Forest Demon Deacons; both teams collectively outscored their opponents by a score of 88-3. On Saturday afternoon in the Carrier Dome, a clash between the ACC teams will have both squads looking to make a statement in Week 2 of the young season.

The senior poured in a career-high 35 points as the Orange continued its hot start in conference play.

With freshman forward Chris McCullough now sidelined for the rest of the season, Syracuse will need to move forward without half of its potent one-two punch inside the paint.

But on Tuesday night against Wake Forest, the other half proved he’s capable of delivering knockout blows all by himself.

A pair of defensive touchdowns propels SU to its first conference victory.

More than 25,000 fans were sprinkled in the stands on a sunny afternoon at BB&T Field in Winston-Salem, N.C., to see two Atlantic Coast Conference teams battle for their first conference victory this season.

Instead, they witnessed a Syracuse blowout.

The Orange (3-4) scored two defensive touchdowns and piled up 199 rushing yards to rout Wake Forest, 30-7.

The junior nets his first two goals of the season in SU victory over the Demon Deacons.

Tyler Hilliard had yet to find the back of the net this season. His two goals Friday night, though, did more than ink his name on the stat sheet.

Behind the junior defender’s goals in the ninth and 47th minutes and a punctuating score from Chris Nanco midway through the second half, No. 4 Syracuse (11-1-0, 4-1-0 Atlantic Coast) cruised to its seventh-straight win with a 3-1 decision over Wake Forest (6-6-0, 2-3-0 Atlantic Coast).

November 9, 2013 - 12:05am
The Orange could not overcome an early deficit, falling 4-1 to the Demon Deacons.

Syracuse dropped its final game of the regular season 4-1 to Wake Forest despite Emil Ekblom scoring his team leading 10th goal of the season.

Wake Forest claimed the lead halfway through the first half when Ian Harkes capitalized on the scoring opportunity to put the Demon Deacons up 1-0. Sean Okoli followed up a short time later to put his team up 2-0, a deficit that proved to be difficult for the Orange to recover from.

November 7, 2013 - 6:19pm
The Orange are 2-2-1 over the last five games and have failed to produce much on offense. But if SU wins Friday, it will go into the ACC tournament an 11-6-1 record.

When Syracuse defeated the Clemson Tigers for its biggest victory to date, there wasn’t too much time to celebrate. The Orange (10-6-1) needed to immediately prepare for at least one final road trip against Wake Forest.

A win is necessary to keep its chances of reaching the ACC Tournament. The top eight teams in the regular season will advance to the conference tournament. The Demon Deacons (8-4-5), meanwhile, have already clinched a spot in the postseason and currently hold the third seed in the conference.

November 2, 2013 - 8:47pm
Though neither team scored in the first half, the Orange capitalized on some Wake Forest turnovers to win 13-0.

It was a tale of two halves for Syracuse (4-4, 2-2 ACC), as the offense did nothing in the first half but put together two touchdown drives in the third quarter for the 13-0 victory over Wake Forest (4-5, 2-4 ACC).

“We had a lot of time to think during the bye week after getting our rumps kicked,” head coach Scott Shafer said. “I was really proud of out kids. They went to work after that tough loss. They’ve become tighter when we’ve had tough situations.”
