The big name DJ can appeal to everyone and has a chance to be the can't-miss event of the year.

I've been critical of some University Union bookings in the recent past. Campus shows so far this year have recycled some of the artists we've seen neighboring CNY schools bring first or they included acts that failed to excite the masses (either groups were still on the brink or too niche for most).

At first you may not recognize the acts for the first UU show of the semester, but those in the know will tell you it's a ticket worth getting.

It's less than a week after we managed to get a January/February concert calendar posted and University Union (specifically Bandersnatch) managed to already announce an addition with its first show of the semester.

As we join Block Party headliner Drake in waving bye-bye to 2010, take a look at the top moments and matters for the Syracuse music scene.

It's the time of year for massive amounts of lists and not even Syracuse is safe. We reached out to some of the movers and shakers in the campus music community to compile some of their own original year-end lists spanning a variety of topics. Review: Irish up-and-comers Two Door Cinema Club played Schine Underground last night, but could be playing major venues within the year.

Two Door Cinema Club aren’t a household name, but they could be – and soon. This up-and-coming Irish trio have already amassed a considerable following across the ocean and could very well become the next big indie-pop outfit to hit the States.

Review: The iconic DJ’s Schine Underground show proved he’s bound to do for house music what Mozart did for classical.

Steve Aoki played a venue that was appropriately packed to a crowd that was appropriately rowdy. It was University Union’s second sold-out show of the semester, yet there didn’t seem to be any overarching buzz for the event on campus.

It begs the question, how many people know who Steve Aoki is?

The producer and celebrity DJ will bring his hip-grinding beats to Schine on October 11.

Whether you know it or not, you’ve already seen him: in the video game NBA 2K9, perhaps, or next to Lindsay Lohan at a DJ booth. He’s made the rounds with his sister, actress and model Devon Aoki, and guest-starred – as the DJ, naturally – in the video for Cobra Starship’s “Send My Love to the Dancefloor, I’ll See You in Hell.”

University Union Performing Arts will host a speech and signing with Frank Warren, creator of PostSecret, at 8 p.m. on Oct. 20, in the Goldstein Auditorium in Schine Student Center.

After seven years and several near misses, Juice Jam sells out once again.

At noon, a buzzing mob of 80 students, some sharing headphones, some giddily squealing for Passion Pit and Lupe Fiasco, crowded onto two well-worn yellow school buses at the College Place bus stop. The most aggressive ones pushed and shoved their way into seats – the rest were left behind in the early afternoon drizzle, wondering if the semester’s biggest campus concert was about to start without them.

The fall concert calendar is building up strength and the Otto-Tune blog heads out on a special project tonight.

Summer is a time for festival travel and weekends to the city to catch your favorite band of the moment. You don't have that kind of access to the current must-see acts during most semesters in Syracuse. However, like this past spring session, this fall is slowly turning into something special ... particularly if you enjoy indie rock.
