Sarina Morales, now an on-air contributor for SportsCenter:AM, spoke on race, gender, and sports as the commemorative speaker for Latino/Hispanic Heritage Month.

She was the only girl on her baseball team. Her dream — to play centerfield for the New York Yankees.

As she gets up to bat in front of a huge crowd of people in the Bronx, most of whom have come to scope her out to see if she can really play, the opposing team sits down on the field. The opposing team didn’t believe in her, and her own team didn’t cheer her on either.

The pitcher threw her a soft toss, she took it, and she didn’t quit. She went home, cried and grew a thick skin.

The Orange pulls away from the Big Red in the second half for its eighth win of the year.

It was a tale of two halves.

After coming off an ugly loss to St. John’s last week, Coach Hopkins stressed two points to his team in their return to the Carrier Dome: play positive and don’t fall behind early.

Although the first 20 minutes were filled with poor shooting, careless turnovers, and sloppy interior defense on both sides, Syracuse managed to lead by 4 at the half mainly due to aggressive play and strong rebounding. The second half was a completely different story.

Goals from Ekblom, Murrell and Perea lead SU to second victory.

Only two days after its speed was on full display, Syracuse showed it can also bring physicality to the pitch at SU Soccer Stadium.

Syracuse (2-0-0) has now opened three consecutive seasons with a pair of victories.
