SU players participate in university pro day

Jerome Smith, Jay Bromley and Marquis Spruill were among 13 SU football players who had one final shot to increase their draft stocks.

Jerome Smith walked out of Manley Field House Wednesday afternoon like he’d just scored the game-winning touchdown for the Orange. With beads of sweat dripping down his face, Smith smiled widely. After a sub-par NFL Combine in February, Smith had cause for celebration: he improved his 40-yard dash time by over two-tenths of a second—from 4.84 seconds to between 4.5 and 4.6 seconds.

Lemon, Goggins and Chibane sign with NFL teams

After not being selected in this years draft, three more Syracuse players signed with NFL teams as undrafted free agents.

As the NFL draft came to a close this weekend, many colleges players were left undrafted, including SU players Alec Lemon, Deon Goggins, Zach Chibane and Marcus Sales. But even though these players didn't hear their name called or receive of phone call from an NFL team, a few of them signed this weekend as undrafted free agents. 

Pugh goes early in draft, Nassib and Thomas drafted in fourth round

While it was speculated that Ryan Nassib would get drafted in first round, it was Justin Pugh who hear his name called on day one, while Nassib and Shamarko Thomas waited until the fourth round.

Ryan Nassib, Justin Pugh and Shamarko Thomas finally had their NFL aspirations fulfilled during the 2013 NFL Draft. The three catalysts that propelled the Syracuse Orange to an 8-5 season have landed with two of the more successful franchises in the league today.

Veterans embrace leadership role in 2013

Linebacker Marquis Spruill and wide receiver Jarrod West fill the leadship void on defense and offense.

As the Syracuse Orange took to the Carrier Dome for spring practice on Sunday, the question surrounding the team is which player will elevate his performance as a new era of Syracuse football begins.

In the meantime, head coach Scott Shafer was busy observing his defense handle the offense in stride during the course of the two-hour practice.

Jones declares for NFL Draft

Chandler Jones will forgo his final year of eligibility and enter the NFL Draft.

After three years and 10.5 sacks, Syracuse defensive end Chandler Jones has decided to forgo his final year of eligibility at Syracuse University and enter the NFL draft. Jones, an All-Big East first team defender from Endicott, N.Y. played in seven games for the Orange this season and registered a team-high 4.5 sacks with 7.5 tackles for loss.

Jones made the announcement via his Twitter account at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.

SU fails to handle USC passing game

The Syracuse football team could not stop the Trojans aerial attack, losing, 38-17.

 

On a day with reports of Syracuse University heading to the Atlantic Coast Conference, a Pacific-12 offense gave the Orange more than they could handle.
