Syracuse stomped instate foe Cornell by 20 points Tuesday night, but SU head coach Jim Boeheim was not happy with his team despite the big win.

Jim Boeheim has seen his share of good and bad basketball during his 35 years as coach of the Orange. Tuesday, Syracuse beat Cornell by 20 points, outrebounded the Big Red by 21 and held the visitors to 34 percent shooting. Following that performance, Boeheim was less than impressed.

SU got off to another slow start, but was able to turn it around with a strong second half to top Canisius 86-67.

There was a sense of déjà vu for the SU men’s basketball team Sunday afternoon in its home matchup with Canisius. Much like SU's opening night victory versus Northern Iowa, getting out of the starting blocks strong proved to be an issue once more in the Orange's 86-67 victory over the Golden Griffins.

Syracuse used a big second half to run away from upset-minded Northern Iowa in its season opener Friday night.

There were no glass slippers or carriage rides home Friday night for the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers, one of last season’s Cinderella stories, ran out of magic against Syracuse as they fell to the Orange, 68-46.

Syracuse shrugged off a slow start and exploded for 45 points in the second half to pull away from the pesky Panthers. The Orange were led by Kris Joseph and Rick Jackson who each chipped in 14 points. Freshman Dion Waiters also scored in double figures for Syracuse as he chipped in 10 – seven of which came in the first half.

SU basketball returned to action, dominating Kutztown in its first exhibition game of the season.

Senior big man Rick Jackson started off the 2010-2011 basketball season Monday night by quickly scoring the first two buckets of the game as SU went on to rout Kuztown.

At SU Basketball media day, coach Jim Boeheim says he's excited for combination of veteran leadership and youth.

Before the 2010-2011 season’s first practice this afternoon, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim took the podium for this year’s SU Basketball Media Day, and while many things were discussed, the conversation seemed to always fall back onto one resonating theme: how will the veteran players mesh with one of the nation’s top recruiting classes?

Syracuse (30-4) travels to Salt Lake City for its Sweet Sixteen matchup with Butler (30-4). Tip-off is 7:07 p.m. EST.

Syracuse starting forward Rick Jackson getting into foul trouble was the best thing to happen to Syracuse on Sunday afternoon.

With two hands tied behind their backs (the team's other starting forward Arinze Onuaku was inactive with a leg injury), the Orange took a bat to Gonzaga’s pumpkin chariot, and put up 87 points on the Cinderella-turned-NCAA-regular.

"This is as well as we've played all year," said Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim. "It was a tremendous performance."

It was an offensive battle against the Friars on Tuesday night, but the Orange defense came out on top.

Led by Rick Jackson and Andy Rautins in a rallying, offensive shootout against Providence on Tuesday night, the No. 4 Syracuse Orange shut it down in a 99-85 win. Both players scored 28-points, a season-high for Rautins and a new career-high for Jackson.

The Orange recovered from an eight-point deficit to beat the feisty Friars and reach their highest point total in the Big East this season. The win also earned them a double-bye into the quarterfinals of the upcoming Big East tournament.

The high-flying Syracuse men’s basketball team held off Marquette, 76-71, in Big East action Saturday afternoon, giving returning students a taste of success to come.

The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away –Job 1:21

For the second consecutive Saturday, No. 5 Syracuse let a Big East opponent believe that a miracle comeback was about to occur. It was West Virginia last weekend, and this afternoon the hopeful wore “Marquette” on their jerseys.

Holding a 17-point lead with 3:45 remaining and fans buttoning up their winter coats, the Orange started to make mistakes that led to three-pointers for the Eagles. Marquette got within four points, 75-71, after a Maurice Acker triple with 10 seconds left.

Syracuse dominates offensively and defensively to defeat the South Florida Bulls, 82-65

It was a one-man game for the University of South Florida in their fight against the Orange on Sunday afternoon in the Carrier Dome. However, Dominic Jones’ game-high 30 points were not enough to stop Syracuse from controlling the game. Wes Johnson led the team to an 82-65 victory, with 19 points and 13 rebounds.

The freshman sensation has a coming-out party with a career-high 27 points.

A tired Oakland Golden Grizzlies team was no match for a fast-paced Orange team led by a career performance from freshman Brandon Triche.

Tuesday night’s matchup with the Rochester, Michigan-based Grizzlies displayed SU’s ability to take advantage of a drained and less talented team.  It was also a coming out party for Triche, who scored a season and career-high 27 points.
