NCAA Tournament

November 11, 2013 - 5:39pm
The Orange is the number one seed in its region and plays either Miami (Ohio) or No. 23 Michigan State at home, where SU field hockey is undefeated this season.

Despite its early semifinal loss in the ACC tournament, SU field hockey remains the number two team in the nation, and heads its region in the 2013 NCAA tournament. Holding the top four spots in the NCAA rankings, ACC members Maryland, Syracuse, Virginia and Duke lead all four of the regions in the NCAA tournament. Each of the four, besides Duke, wait for a play-in game to determine its matchups. Syracuse awaits the result of Mid-American Conference (MAC) champion Miami (Ohio) – Big Ten champion Michigan State Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. The game will be played in East Lansing, Mich.

Fourth-seeded Syracuse rolled through thirteen-seeded Montana en route to an 81-34 thrashing in the second round of the NCAA tournament.

They are who we thought they were.

Montana is severely undersized, especially in comparison with Syracuse. The Orange were able to dominate the Grizzlies in every facet of the game. Be it shooting (52-percent vs. 20-percent), free throws (22 vs. 8), assists (21 vs. 5), turnovers (8 vs. 17), fouls (8 vs. 22) or overall points (81 vs. 34), Syracuse completely controlled this game, from tip to buzzer.

An anonymous source told CBSSports.com on Wednesday that the Syracuse University men’s basketball team has been under NCAA investigation for years.

While the investigation doesn’t have to do with last year’s allegations made against former associate head coach Bernie Fine, it’s still both major and wide-ranging, the source told CBSSports.com.

“Throw a dart at the [NCAA] Manual [and you would hit a violation by Syracuse],” the source told CBSSports.com.
