Mayfest

The No. 1 party school status elicits mixed reactions ranging from raves about positive party experiences to concerns about what the new title will mean.

Syracuse University knows how to party according to the Princeton Review — and according to some of its approximately 15,000 undergraduate students.

Marshall Street-area bars, University Neighborhood house parties and one-time events like MayFest make SU a college party hot spot, students said, and nabbed their university a No. 1 ranking in the annual collegiate superlatives this year. This top ranking follows a No. 5 ranking last year and a No. 10 ranking for 2013.

Pairing the EDM artist and rapper provided plenty of audio ammunition Friday at the annual year-end concert.

After a morning of eating, drinking and celebrating the end of the school semester at MayFest, Syracuse University students headed to the Carrier Dome for a night with 2 Chainz and Zedd that surely did not disappoint.

DJ Brazzabelle opened the show with her signature house mixes that got the crowd off its feet and swaying back and forth. The energy could be felt throughout the Dome as audience members screamed in anticipation of 2 Chainz and Zedd.

Commentary: Syracuse University senior Jillian D'Onfro describes her last Mayfest and thinks back on past years' celebrations.

I noticed the first sign when I peered out my bedroom window and spotted a rainbow bounce house already shaking and swaying two backyards over. The second sign arrived as my roommate thrust a freshly opened beer into my hand. Next came the beats thumping from nearby speakers, the squeals and yips floating through my open windows as someone started their inaugural game of flip cup and a text from a friend asking what time we would start putting glitter on our faces.

“Happy senior year Mayfest,” my roommate grinned wickedly.

Review: The pop star performed many of her No. 1 hits at the Carrier Dome on Friday, with openers Drop City Yacht Club and Trey Songz.

Syracuse University’s annual Block Party is time for students to break loose, to quench their thirst with questionable beverages and say goodbye to a semester that's overstayed its welcome. In the process of achieving these three goals, things may get a little inappropriate. Thus, it was fitting that pop vocalist extraordinaire Madam Kesha Rose Sebert made a visit to SU to sing a few songs on this glorified collegiate holiday.
