Vocalist/pianist Ben Thornewill talked to The NewsHouse in February about Czech bakeries, touring and new music.

Ben Thornewill is standing on the sidewalk outside Czech bakery-gas station hybrid in the middle of Texas in February, on his way to a show in Dallas.

“We always stop here on tour,” Thornewill says. “It’s just so doughy and good.”

Up-and-coming Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$ kicked off the first Bandersnatch show with support from Dizzy Wright in the Schine Underground on Tuesday March 5.

The headliner came and delivered with a splash, a splash of water that is.

Joey Bada$$ played the Schine Underground on Monday night for a sold-out crowd. The 18-year old Brooklyn native showed a stage presence and connection to fans that only comes with the experience of older artists.

“He is hip-hop’s golden boy,” said junior Carter Sims. “Syracuse students don’t know how lucky they are to get this guy to come so early in his career.”

After seven years off the road, Mr. Aaron's Party himself is officially back in business.

Review: Alt hip-hop band WHY? played a show at Rochester's Water Street Music Hall Sunday night, supported by Astronautalis and Dream Tiger.

The promise of two alternative hip-hop acts fronted by intelligent, skinny-white-dude rappers brought a crowd of young hipsters to the Water Street Music Hall in Rochester Sunday night.

WHY? and Astronautalis, with opener Dream Tiger, didn’t disappoint on the fourth show of their two month tour, bringing all the witty lyrics, interesting beats, and weird dance moves that the audience could want.

Review: Despite a lively showing, the Friday night concert at The Haunt ended disappointingly.

North Carolina-based folk rockers, The Mountain Goats, played a sold-out show at Ithaca’s nightclub The Haunt on Friday, sampling songs from several records on their 14-album discography, including their latest release Transcendental Youth.
