No. 7 Syracuse used an early first period scoring streak to upset No. 5 Johns Hopkins in the Carrier Dome on Saturday.

Hakeem Lecky knew he would get his chances to shine for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team this year. But four games into the season, he hadn’t had too many.

Lecky, a 5-foot-10-inch, 167-pound midfielder, found them in the fifth game.

Lecky scored twice off the bench, and starter Scott Loy had a hat trick as the No. 7 Orange pounced on No. 5 Johns Hopkins for a 13-8 win in front of 6,292 fans in the Carrier Dome.

No. 16 Syracuse rallied past No. 6 Virginia in a back-and-forth game Friday night, 9-8.

Kevin Rice dreamed of playing in the Syracuse-Virginia men’s lacrosse rivalry since he played backyard lacrosse in his Skaneateles home.

The sophomore attackman cemented his spot in the rivalry Friday night.

Rice made use of only two shots, driving home the game-winning goal with one minute left in overtime as the Orange nipped the No. 6 Cavaliers, 9-8 in front of 5,388 fans at the Carrier Dome.

No. 13 Syracuse battled back after trailing early to Albany, only to lose in double overtime, 16-15, in the team's first season opening loss since 1996.

There was only one word University of Albany coach Scott Marr needed to describe his men’s lacrosse team’s emotions after a double-overtime victory: finally.

Great Danes attackman Miles Thompson scored his third goal nearly a minute into the second overtime, and Albany (1-0) withstood a late rally to hold off No. 13 Syracuse (0-1), 16-15 in the Orange’s home-opener. It was Albany’s first-ever win over upstate New York rival Syracuse.

The Orange opened up the men's lacrosse season with two exhibition wins against Hofstra and Holy Cross Saturday morning in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse 15, Hofstra 10

After weeks of practicing with the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team, playing against similar Orange shirts can get a bit repetitive for Derek Maltz.

The junior attackman made good use of his first shot at another team Saturday, netting four goals and an assist to help the Orange hold off Hofstra, 15-10 in the first game of an exhibition series Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

After a disappointing 2012 season, the Syracuse men's lacrosse team looks to improve in 2013 with the addition of a young transfer and lots of returning veterans

A lot of the talk around Syracuse’s men’s lacrosse team before the 2013 season has been about the new additions, specifically a big transfer from the University of North Carolina. Head coach John Desko, though, prefers to focus on returning players from last year.

The Orange fall in the season-finale

The Orange came into South Bend with a chance to possibly clinch an NCAA Tournament berth. The team didn't play like it had anything to prove in the first half, going scoreless for the first two quarters of the game. After Notre Dame took a 4-0 lead into halftime, Syracuse lit a fire and came out strong in the second half. The bench was energized, the players were fighting for ground balls and the Orange looked like it could win the game. But the Fighting Irish fought off Syracuse and never let them cut the lead to less than one.

The Orange lose consecutive games for the first time since 2007.

It was a rainy Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the Konic Minolta Big City Classic as the No. 14 Syracuse Orange (4-4) fell to the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils (9-3). The Orange came out strong in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-1 lead. Duke took a one-goal lead into halftime and then a three-goal lead in the third quarter. The Orange stormed back to tie the game, but a series of bad turnovers resulted in a Duke victory. This was the first time that Duke has beaten Syracuse since 1978.
