If only Syracuse basketball players had a crystal ball that forecasted how their NBA careers would pan out, maybe – just maybe – they’d avoid the backlash that comes with a professional tenure that doesn’t unfold exactly as planned.

Especially with the recent influx of one-and-done players, athletes are constantly criticized for leaving multiple years of college eligibility on the table in exchange for money in the NBA, D-League or overseas.

The Syracuse men’s basketball team hired Allen Griffin as an assistant coach, Syracuse University athletics announced on Thursday. A spot opened on SU’s staff after former assistant head coach Mike Hopkins left to become the head coach at the University of Washington late last month.

One day after its top assistant coach left for Washington, the Syracuse men’s basketball team could be losing a star player as well. 

Orange sophomore forward Tyler Lydon declared for the NBA Draft on Monday afternoon. Lydon started all 34 games for the Orange this season.

Syracuse men’s basketball head coach designate Mike Hopkins will become the next head coach at the University of Washington. Reports indicate Hopkins contract with the Huskies is for six years.

SU's season ends with 85-80 loss to the Rebels at the Carrier Dome.

The Syracuse men’s basketball team (19-15) lost to the Ole Miss Rebels, 85-80, in the second round of the NIT Tournament, ending a disappointing season that had high expectations at the start following a run to the Final Four in 2016. The Orange had an off shooting night and could not stop Ole Miss sophomore guard Terence Davis, who scored 30 points on 11-14 shooting.

White sets program record for 3-pointers in a season as SU defeats UNCG 90-77.

The top seeded Syracuse men’s basketball team (19-14) beat UNC Greensboro, 90-77, in the first round of the NIT Tournament on Wednesday. Syracuse was in control from the start, taking a quick 7-2 lead and not looking back.

Despite a whole lot of nail-biting and praying, the Syracuse men’s basketball team failed to make it into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday after spending most of the year on the bubble. Syracuse at times looked like an NCAA Tournament team, but failed to convince the selection committee that they were worthy of a bid.
