Josue Prado's job is not a glorious one, however, his pride gives him energy to wake up at 2 a.m., six days a week, and drive through snow, sleet and rain.

As the sun rises, Josue Prado takes his first break to grab breakfast and take a quick nap.

Prado's job is not a glorious one, however, his pride gives him energy to wake up at 2 a.m. six days a week, and drive through snow, sleet and rain.

While driving a trash truck was never Prado's dream career, he has taken solace and dignity in the ability to provide for his family of seven. Prado has six children, and a wife, who live with him in Chenango, N.Y., outside of Syracuse.

The dirty details of Syracuse University's dining hall waste and where food scraps go.

New compost bins in the dining centers around campus put Syracuse University high on the list of sustainable universities, said Assistant Director of Food Services Mark Tewksbury.

The dining halls installed them during spring break. Now there are compost bins in the disposal areas for students finishing their meals.

“We’ve had a trash removal service since the beginning of time here,” Tewksbury said. “We thought if we could divert anything from the waste stream, it would be better than sending it to the incinerator.”

SUNY-ESF's new club, Primitive Pursuits, is all about living simply with the land.

Living off the land is about as close to the earth you can get. Keeping in tune with Earth Week, the new Primitive Pursuits club at State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry held a Friction Fire Workshop and Braintanning Demonstration on April 23. The club, which formed last semester, teaches students about being all natural and how to survive in nature. Think "Into the Wild".
