Whether it's a another person or activity, these students and local residents are passionate.

Valentine's Day is the annual reminder of love, and that love isn't necessarily limited to another individual.

As several of our digital reporters discovered in their quest to find expressions of love, human passions extend to animals, activities and themselves.

For the fourth annual Wellness Week, Syracuse University services and organizations collaborate to put on a week of events that promote physical, nutritional and holistic health.

Running has always been a passion for Syracuse graduate student Danielle Kennedy.

Before graduate school, Kennedy was an All-American track and field athlete.

Now, Kennedy doesn’t have the motivation and pressure of her coaches and teammates to keep her on the path to eating healthy and staying physically fit.

“I have to find self motivation,” Kennedy said.

“I noticed that after I run I’m motivated to do everything. I’m the most motivated to eat a healthy dinner, to go to the library to do homework, and to find time to hang out with my friends.”

A Syracuse Subway restaurant owner lost more than 200 pounds in part from the franchise's Fresh Fit diet popularized by Jared Fogle.

Fifteen years ago, 425-pound Jared Fogle shed more than half of his person on the Subway diet.

From then on Fogle was inextricably linked to the national fast-food chain’s brand, appearing in more than 300 commercials and, for better or worse, becoming the grinning, bespectacled face of weight loss in America.

Following in Fogle’s footsteps is Dov Abramovsky, a 29-year-old former lawyer who was once heavy enough to elicit complaints from his fellow airplane passengers.

Jose Rincon enjoys working for Late Night at the Gym.

Jose Rincon, a fitness center attendant for Late Night at the Gym, needed to get a job during the hours he was always free, and that happened to be late at night on the weekends. Originally, Rincon was hired as an attendant at all the gyms during daytime and early evening hours, but he realized that with schoolwork and extracurricular activities required for his major—health and exercise science—Late Night at the Gym shifts were a perfect match.

CrossFit 315 offers SU students a place to train and improve their stamina with its structured workout routines.

"Do you CrossFit?" Jasmine Watkins asks me as I click a photo of her on the rope pull. She grunts and grimaces through her workout. "It's so addicting, I can't go more than two days before coming back here," she says.

Monday Mile, a new Healthy Monday program, seeks to make exercise approachable and enjoyable for the Syracuse community.

Students living on South Campus should look out for the colorful signs reading “The Monday Mile,” which will be installed on street poles along Skytop Road soon.
