No. 15 Louisville drained 13 shots from beyond the arc, then held off a furious Syracuse rally to defeat the No. 13 Orange Saturday, 73-69.

The Louisville Cardinals seem to have Syracuse’s number. Despite a 20-5 run late in the second half, the Orange could not overcome the Cardinals outstanding 3-point shooting and timely free throws.

Syracuse won its second consecutive road game to pick up its 20th win of the season, as it defeated South Florida Saturday, 72-49.

A dash of good defense plus a dose of Rick Jackson were the ingredients that Jim Boeheim needed to put together a win in Tampa Saturday.  The Orange’s patented 2-3 zone defense held South Florida to 35 percent (18-of-51) shooting and led Syracuse to a 72-49 win.

Syracuse is in the midst of its longest losing streak since the 2005-06 season after falling to the Golden Eagles of Marquette Saturday, 76-70.

Syracuse came into this crucial road test against Marquette on a three game losing streak, their longest in two years. The Golden Eagles had lost two straight of their own, and were also looking for their first victory against Syracuse as a member of the Big East.

Syracuse used a couple big runs and some solid defense to stymie Cincinnati and hand the Bearcats their second loss of the season.

On paper, Saturday’s contest between the undefeated Syracuse Orange and the one-loss Cincinnati Bearcats looked like a battle of top Big East teams. However, the Orange used big runs at the start of both halves and the biggest college basketball crowd this season to run away from the Bearcats for an easy 67-52 win.

Syracuse stomped instate foe Cornell by 20 points Tuesday night, but SU head coach Jim Boeheim was not happy with his team despite the big win.

Jim Boeheim has seen his share of good and bad basketball during his 35 years as coach of the Orange. Tuesday, Syracuse beat Cornell by 20 points, outrebounded the Big Red by 21 and held the visitors to 34 percent shooting. Following that performance, Boeheim was less than impressed.

SU got off to another slow start, but was able to turn it around with a strong second half to top Canisius 86-67.

There was a sense of déjà vu for the SU men’s basketball team Sunday afternoon in its home matchup with Canisius. Much like SU's opening night victory versus Northern Iowa, getting out of the starting blocks strong proved to be an issue once more in the Orange's 86-67 victory over the Golden Griffins.

Syracuse used a big second half to run away from upset-minded Northern Iowa in its season opener Friday night.

There were no glass slippers or carriage rides home Friday night for the University of Northern Iowa. The Panthers, one of last season’s Cinderella stories, ran out of magic against Syracuse as they fell to the Orange, 68-46.

Syracuse shrugged off a slow start and exploded for 45 points in the second half to pull away from the pesky Panthers. The Orange were led by Kris Joseph and Rick Jackson who each chipped in 14 points. Freshman Dion Waiters also scored in double figures for Syracuse as he chipped in 10 ­– seven of which came in the first half.

After a shocking loss to Le Moyne a year ago, Syracuse showed the Dolphins who's boss in the Carrier Dome with a 91-48 win Tuesday night.

The Carrier Dome was filled with 10,546 fans hoping for some revenge Tuesday night after they witnessed a 79-82 defeat to a Division II school last season. The fans wound up witnessing a 91-48 victory and earning a little reassurance in the process before the games start counting.

SU basketball returned to action, dominating Kutztown in its first exhibition game of the season.

 

Senior big man Rick Jackson started off the 2010-2011 basketball season Monday night by quickly scoring the first two buckets of the game as SU went on to rout Kuztown.

At SU Basketball media day, coach Jim Boeheim says he's excited for combination of veteran leadership and youth.

Before the 2010-2011 season’s first practice this afternoon, Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim took the podium for this year’s SU Basketball Media Day, and while many things were discussed, the conversation seemed to always fall back onto one resonating theme: how will the veteran players mesh with one of the nation’s top recruiting classes?
