Duke

February 1, 2014 - 4:45pm
There were signs that bashed Justin Bieber and Duke (simultaneously), as well as great puns created from the letters E-S-P-N. But which one was the best?

One great part of ESPN College GameDay is the signs fans make to display behind Rece Davis, Jalen Rose, Digger Phelps and Jay Bilas. They can be anything created from timely new stories to play on words to just plan weird.

Here are The NewsHouse's top ten signs seen at ESPN College GameDay, excluding big heads:

Between Otto and Dome campers sledding down Crouse College and panels at the S.I. Newhouse School, ESPN's College GameDay left its mark on campus the day before the big game.

Although tip-off wasn't for another 30 hours, the hype leading up to the first ever ACC match-up between Syracuse and Duke made its way throughout campus when ESPN's College GameDay came to town.

The No. 2 Orange host No. 17 Duke Saturday in a match-up of perennial basketball powerhouses.

It’s the game most basketball fans have waited for since Syracuse first announced it was joining the ACC in 2013.

Friend versus friend. Boeheim versus Krzyzewski. Syracuse versus Duke.

Between the coaches, there have been over 1,800 wins, five NCAA Division I National Championships, and two gold medals in the last two summer Olympics.

But on Saturday, the two long-time friends will be on opposite sides of the court for the first time since Duke knocked Syracuse out of the Sweet Sixteen in 1998. The Blue Devils bested the Orange then, 80-67.

Nike released seven new Hyper Elite Dominance uniforms Thursday, including a throwback Syracuse uniform.

Syracuse may have joined the ACC this year, but they'll be wearing uniforms from the early Big East years.

Nike released seven new uniforms as part of the company's Hyper Elite Dominance series in a press release Thursday. Syracuse joins Michigan State, Kentucky, Ohio State, Duke, Oregon and North Carolina as the only teams to don these uniforms this season.

In a matter of 24 hours, SUMB members will be performing at one of the largest regular season NCAA college basketball games ever and then the world's biggest annual football event.

It'll be a big weekend for sports fans, and potentially an even bigger weekend for the Syracuse University Marching Band.

The SUMB will start a nearly non-stop, 24-hour stretch Saturday night at SU's sold-out men's basketball game where a record-setting crowd of more than 35,000 fans are expected.

A mere 24 hours later, the band will find itself on an even bigger stage at MetLife Stadium in The Meadowlands, N.J., for Super Bowl XLVIII. The band is slated to perform with the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights just before the 6:30 p.m. kick-off.

January 22, 2014 - 5:44pm
After winning its third bowl game in four years, Syracuse will play some of the best teams in 2013, including Florida State, Louisville and Duke in the Carrier Dome.

The Orange look to build off a solid 2013 football campaign with a pretty tough 2014 schedule.

After year that saw 11 Atlantic Coast Conference (12 if your count the impending inclusion of Louisville in 2014) play in bowl games, the Orange face eight of them next season, according to the SU Athletic Department

SU plays its season opener against former Big East rival Villanova on Saturday August 30 in the Carrier Dome.

January 21, 2014 - 2:20pm
Students pitch tents outside Gate E more than a week before the sold-out, Feb. 1 showdown in the Carrier Dome to establish an SU-Duke rivalry.

Wondering what the Devil they're doing outside?

Students have already set up shop outside the Carrier Dome with the excitement of the Syracuse-Duke men's basketball matchup nearly two weeks before tip-off.

This week's dangerously cold temperatures have temporarily suspended students from camping overnight in the so-called "Boheimburg." But thanks to the student fan club, Otto's Army, those who braved the freezing weather won't lose their place in line for the Feb. 1 game.

April 1, 2012 - 8:29pm
The Orange lose consecutive games for the first time since 2007.

It was a rainy Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey for the Konic Minolta Big City Classic as the No. 14 Syracuse Orange (4-4) fell to the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils (9-3). The Orange came out strong in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-1 lead. Duke took a one-goal lead into halftime and then a three-goal lead in the third quarter. The Orange stormed back to tie the game, but a series of bad turnovers resulted in a Duke victory. This was the first time that Duke has beaten Syracuse since 1978.

It's official, the Atlantic Coast Conference officially accepted the applications Syracuse University and the University of Pittsburgh Sunday morning.

The Atlantic Coast Conference confirmed during a teleconference Sunday what everyone in the country already assumed, Syracuse and Pittsburgh are joining the conference. The most telling note to take away from the announcement, though, is that the ACC and both schools said they intend to honor their contractual commitments to the Big East Conference, which include staying in the conference 27 months after notifying the league of a move.
