Chris Daddio

Ben Williams dominated one of the best faceoff specialists in the country as the Orange offense rolled past the Saints.

Syracuse seems to have finally found its long-awaited dominant faceoff specialist after a brilliant performance against Siena, which had the defending MAAC faceoff specialist of the year on its team.

Led by the performance of Ben Williams, the Orange (1-0) won 25 out of 30 faceoffs en route to a 21-7 victory over Siena (0-1) in the Carrier Dome. Williams finished 17 for 20 for an 85-percent clip at the X.

A furious rally in the closing seconds fell short as the Bulldogs dealt the Orange a 10-9 upset loss in the second round.

After junior Kevin Rice scored a goal to cut the Syracuse deficit to one with only eight seconds remaining, the Orange’s postseason life hinged on a faceoff—something that hindered Syracuse throughout much of the season.

Somehow, though, senior Chris Daddio won it easily and zipped a pass to Dylan Donahue, who was streaking down the right sideline. After a couple of jukes, he was within 10 yards of the cage and took one final shot.

Clang.

The Orange men's lacrosse team started strong and cruised to a 19-6 win over the Raiders.

The No. 4 Syracuse men’s lacrosse team showed no signs of any kind of post-ACC Tournament hangover Saturday, as the Orange rolled over Colgate,19-6, at the Carrier Dome. The Orange came out strong early and never looked back, giving their seniors a good memory for their last home game.

“Today was a great game for us,” head coach John Desko said. “I thought we came out and played well in all facets of the game. I was very happy with the way everyone played right from the start.”

After a lackluster first half, No. 8 Syracuse controlled the game in a 10-8 win over Binghamton.

When the Bearcats boarded the bus heading up I-81 to the Carrier Dome on Wednesday afternoon, someone forgot to tell them that they were not supposed to win, or even make it close. But in the first half the Bearcats acted as if it was the favorite to beat Syracuse, instead of vice versa. It had been five years since the Bearcats had played against the Orange but the started the game with the intensity like it was an age-old rivalry.

“I was impressed with Binghamton,” head coach John Desko said. “I thought they played well,”

After dominating Syracuse on face-offs, everything else fell into place for Maryland in the win.

After months of speculation and discussion, the entire Syracuse men's lacrosse program has to be tired of talking about its problems at the X.

SU capitalized on its few offensive possessions to roll past tournament newcomer Bryant at the Carrier Dome.

Chris Daddio knew his offense wasn’t going to have many chances to put the ball in the back of the net during the Orange’s first-round NCAA Tournament game against Bryant.

Facing the nation’s top faceoff specialist in the Bulldogs’ Kevin Massa can do that.

Seniors Luke Cometti and JoJo Marasco helped the Orange outscore Rutgers, 7-1 in the fourth quarter for a 12-11 victory.

For three and a half quarters, it looked like a classic trap game.

No. 7 Syracuse (9-2, 3-1 Big East) was being outhustled, outmanned and outscored by two-win Rutgers, days after dramatic wins at No. 9 Princeton and over No. 2 Cornell.

The Orange opened up the men's lacrosse season with two exhibition wins against Hofstra and Holy Cross Saturday morning in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse 15, Hofstra 10

After weeks of practicing with the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team, playing against similar Orange shirts can get a bit repetitive for Derek Maltz.

The junior attackman made good use of his first shot at another team Saturday, netting four goals and an assist to help the Orange hold off Hofstra, 15-10 in the first game of an exhibition series Saturday afternoon at the Carrier Dome.

The Orange take home the Kraus-Simmons trophy for the sixth-straight year.

The Hobart-Syracuse rivalry dates back to 1916. The Orange lost that first game almost 100 years ago, but have controlled the series ever since. Syracuse took home the Kraus-Simmons trophy for the 71st time tonight with a 13-12 victory that came down to the final seconds. The Orange dominated the first half, taking a 10-4 lead into halftime. But a series of mistakes and some great play from the Statesmen resulted in one goal game with just nine seconds to go. The Orange won the face-off due to a Hobart violation and held on for the win.

Here are three thoughts:

Syracuse took down Providence Saturday in the Carrier Dome 10-9.

The No. 17 Syracuse Orange (5-4) picked up a win Saturday against the No. 11 Princeton Tigers (6-3) in front of a home crowd at the Carrier Dome. The Orange scored 4 unanswered goals during a decisive third quarter to win its first game in over two weeks.

"It was a very good win for us," coach John Desko said. "We're gonna enjoy it for the next ten minutes here and then get ready for the (Cornell) Big Red on Tuesday."
