Spring into the Chinese New Year

Chinese Student and Scholar Association hosted Spring Festival Gala at Goldstein Auditorium to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

As the Lunar New Year, a massive New Year celebration in China and most Asian countries that comes this month, the Chinese community at Syracuse University celebrated the festival together on February 13 at Goldenstein Auditorium in Schine Student Center.

February 24, thousands of different animal-shaped lanterns will light the night sky in China, and the streets will transform into a sea of red light, lanterns, and laughter. It’s the 15th day of the lunar calendar and the end of Chinese New Year celebration: the Lantern Festival.

Bringing In The New Year

Every year, several hundred students mark the start of the Chinese New Year with cultural events, performances, and a dinner held in Goldstein Auditorium.

Several hundred members of the Syracuse community gathered in Schine Student Center Friday Feb. 4 to celebrate the beginning of the Chinese New Year.

The Spring Gala, sponsored by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA), brought together SU faculty and students along with members of the local community to engage in Chinese traditions. CSSA celebrated the beginning of Chinese New Year, and a new year in raising cultural awareness on campus, by hosting a dinner with performances by Chinese student groups.
