The Orange Shut Out Colgate in Dome Opener

Home plate was near the 50-yard line, field goal posts were used as foul poles, and bases were mounted into the turf of Ernie Davis Legends Field for the first ever softball game in the Carrier Dome. 

"It was so much fun, great energy in here," head coach Leigh Ross said. "The girls were extra excited to have so many fans here."

Living Colour front man Corey Glover returns to Syracuse with funk band Galactic

In 1989, the rock group Living Colour came to Syracuse University to open for the Rolling Stones at the Carrier Dome. At the time, Boeheim's squad ranked in the top ten nationally, a democrat ran city hall, CNY had enjoyed a relatively mild winter and Carousel Mall was under construction (it was being built). So when Living Colour front man Corey Glover returned to the Salt City last night, he may have been eerily reminded of the past. After all, some things never change.

Mittens, scarves and down jackets remain stashed away on many days as Syracuse experiences an atypically mild winter.

This winter is, thus far, Syracuse's fourth warmest since 1902. And following last year's nearly record-setting winter for snowfall, the total this year in Syracuse is almost 12 feet less than at this time in February, according to the National Weather Service.

Review: Rappers Rick Ross and Ludacris please large numbers with older songs at University Union's inaugural winter concert.

Krystie Yandoli loves rap. She loves it so much that her family even made a joke about it when she was growing up. Sometimes they call her Luda-Krys.

“I’m really excited to see my namesake,” said Yandoli, a senior English student, as she waited in the minutes before rappers Ludacris and Rick Ross took the stage to perform at University Union’s inaugural Rock the Dome concert. Yandoli was one of more than 7,000 who paid to see the duo.

The two Southern rappers will co-headline University Union's inaugural winter concert at the Carrier Dome.

Rappers Ludacris and Rick Ross will co-headline its Rock The Dome concert, held in the Carrier Dome on Feb. 2, University Union announced Wednesday.

The two popular Southern rappers are the first headliners for the inaugural event, a new large-scale concert in addition to the springtime Block Party.

Syracuse students call Westboro Baptists' bluff

Syracuse students showed up to counter the protests of the Westboro Baptists, but the Kansas radicals never showed.

At 5:30 p.m. on a chilly Friday night, a group of roughly a dozen students assembled beneath an American flag outside Hendricks Chapel. Wearing orange shirts and carrying colorful signs, the students milled around cracking jokes. They were preparing to protest the Westboro Baptist Church.

The Syracuse University Marching Band spends several days before the start of fall semester to train acclimate new members to life behind the end zone.

Sam Brickfield stood between two groups standing in the Carrier Dome weeks before the fall semester would start. One row of orange-shirted students, standing at attention, faced a line of students, some still wiping tears from their eyes. Seven minutes earlier, many of them said speedy goodbyes to family members they wouldn’t see for months.

Although Syracuse has the largest indoor arena within 260 miles, major concerts and community events are rare because of its commitment to Orange athletics and campus activities.

Looming over the Syracuse skyline is a 527,320 square foot mass of gray cement on the campus of Syracuse University. Though bland to the eye on its exterior, the building frequently radiates orange and the emotion of fervent fans from the inside.

The Carrier Dome is a staple of the university, providing a lifetime of memories for its guests. It welcomes students on preview days, bids them farewell during commencement and hosts countless events in between.

Orange dominate Siena in NCAA first round

Syracuse jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and then pulled away in the second half to defeat a pesky Siena squad 10-4 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Syracuse moved into the NCAA quarterfinals Sunday with a 10-4 win over Siena, avenging the shocking upset to Army a year ago.

Johns Hopkins transfer Tommy Palasek played a big role in getting the Orange out of the first round this season, having his hand in each of Syracuse’s first four goals.

Networking at the SU and SUNY-ESF commencement

The annual spring exercise honors nearly 5,500 SU graduates, many of whom stayed connected with Facebook, Twitter and their social networks throughout the ceremony.

As has been a tradition for more than a century, the school year on The Hill concluded Sunday with a graduation ceremony.

This year, 5,459 degrees were awarded to Syracuse University students while the joint commencement with SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry students honored 475 of its students as well.
