Freshman Tyler Ennis and sophomore transfer Michael Gbinije may be new to the team, but the entire SU team is new to the ACC.

The Syracuse men’s basketball team received a warm welcome to the Atlantic Coast Conference earlier this week at ACC media day. The Orange were picked to finish second in the league, behind only Duke, and senior forward C.J. Fair was selected as the preseason conference player of the year.

It was a tight contest for over 90 minutes, but in the end the Seminoles squeaked out the 1-0 overtime victory against the Orange.

The Syracuse Orange (5-7-1) women took the field Thursday night against No. 3Florida State University (10-0-3).  SU was looking to keep the momentum going after a 4-0 win at Pitt, its first ever ACC win, while FSU was coming off a win against Boston College.

Orange played tough until the final moments of the game, forcing FSU into overtime in order to draw a result, 1-0 in favor of the Seminoles.

Syracuse could not contain Virginia and were outplayed across the board.

Syracuse men's soccer entered Saturday night’s game against Virginia trying to continue its three-game winning streak and improve in the conference standings. But Virginia (4-3-1) outplayed Syracuse (6-3) from start to finish a 2-0 loss to the Cavaliers.

Virginia set the tempo quickly in the match-up, and took control of the first half by showing aggressiveness against the Orange attack. Freshman Jordan Allen and Riggs Lennon provided the offensive spark for the Cavaliers.

Although he played long before the Orange joined the ACC, legendary running back Floyd Little was inducted into the 2013 ACC Class of Legends.

Dubbing Floyd Little an ACC legend might be a bit of an awkward fit — the Orange have yet to play a single football game in the conference, after all — but odds are good that no one will mind giving one more trophy and standing ovation to No. 44.

Little, along with 13 others, was named to the 2013 Class of Legends by the ACC this afternoon. The group will be honored at the ACC Championship Game at a dinner on Dec. 6 and on the field in Charlotte on Dec. 7.

All seven of Syracuse’s point-scoring runners finished within the top 12. Dartmouth College’s Will Geoghegan finished first among the point-scoring runners with a time of 23:57.62.

A few key starters return, but a fierce five-way quarterback competition headlines the beginning of preseason.

With only 26 days left until the season opener at MetLife Stadium against Penn State, Syracuse’s first football season in the ACC is almost here. This season will also mark Scott Shafer’s first as a head coach. Since 2009, Shafer served as the defensive coordinator for the Orange. And last season, Shafer’s defensive unit ranked seventh in the nation.

“Everyone is going to be excited day one,” Shafer said. “It’s always fun when you open up camp because the kids are fired up and ready to go.”

The Syracuse University football team took part in its first Atlantic Coast Conference Kickoff this week, a two-day media event held in Greensboro, N.C.

It was also a first for new head coach Scott Shafer, who takes over this season for Doug Marrone. Shafer said the rest of the conference has been very welcoming to him and his team.

Fair announces he will return for his senior year instead of declaring for the NBA draft.

It looks like the Syracuse basketball team won’t be losing a fourth starter to graduation and the NBA. CJ Fair decided Wednesday to stay for his senior year at Syracuse, according to SU Athletics.

“After talking it over with my family and my coaches, I decided another year at Syracuse was best for me,” said Fair. “I'm excited about working hard with my teammates to put together another great season and graduating has also been a goal of mine.”
