The Orange breezed through the Holy Family Tigers by a score of 79-41, but Boeheim was able to see how his newest team played together in a game situation, especially Tyler Ennis and Michael Gbinjie.

The Orange took no time to look back after its quick start to the season when they played Holy Family University Friday night in an exhibition game. The Orange took a quick 10-point lead thanks to the sharpshooting of Trevor Cooney, and would go on to beat the Tigers 79-41.

“We did a lot of good things and we did some things that, first time out, we’re going to have to do better,” head coach Jim Boeheim said. “It’s a good learning experience.”

Moving to America was difficult for freshman Emil Ekblom and Oyvind Alseth; but sharing a country, language and soccer helped them become playmakers for the Orange.

Syracuse’s men soccer team is a fairly young group this year, comprising of seven freshmen. Of those freshmen, two hail from Norway: striker Emil Ekblom and right fullback Oyvind Alseth.

Ekblom and Alseth have made promising starts to their Syracuse careers, starting in all games this season. Ekblom has three goals so far for the Orange, while Alseth tallied one assist. But beyond the matters on the pitch, integration was the first obstacle they both had to overcome.

While his sister faced a heroin addiction, former Syracuse rower MIke Gennaro trained furiously for the London 2012 Olympics. Today, he's preparing for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.

Two end slices of a loaf of bread and one egg for breakfast. Syracuse University alum Mike Gennaro stared into an Oklahoman fridge that doesn’t belong to him, frowning. He can barely pay for the food.

Gennaro’s four-year road to row in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro isn’t a road. It’s just the way he walks on a shoestring $400-per-month stipend. His house is in his backpack. He trains in his old Syracuse shorts. It isn’t ideal. It isn’t even appealing. It's a sacrifice.

But he takes it.
