Syracuse continued its dominance on the boards to beat Pittsburgh 69-60 at the Carrier Dome.

Entering Wednesday night’s game versus Pittsburgh, the Syracuse women’s basketball team was ranked first in the nation in rebounding margin. The Orange relied once again on their defensive prowess, as they  beat the Panthers 69-60.

Syracuse out-rebounded the Panthers by a 50-36 margin, in a game dominated by physical play. Four Orange players had eight or more rebounds each.

Jeremy Hazell got hot early and poured in 28 points to help Seton Hall rout Syracuse at home and push the Orange's losing streak to three.

With 6:14 left in the second half the Syracuse faithful had seen enough. Jeremy Hazell had just converted a three-point play off of a fast break putting Seton Hall up by 24. Most of the 21,950 in attendance headed to the exits in disdain as Hazell hosted his own coming out party in the Dome, leading the Pirates to a 90-68 win.

Villanova used hot shooting early and free throw shooting down the stretch to hand the No. 3 Orange their second consecutive loss.

Syracuse’s motto this year is “Unfinished Business.” Following an 11 point loss to No. 7 Villanova in front of the second largest on-campus crowd in NCAA history, the Orange are certainly grasping the full meaning of that phrase.

All eyes will be on the No. 1 ranked SU men's lacrosse team as the Orange aim for a third national championship in four years.

February cannot come fast enough for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team. That’s when the Orange kick off the 2011 season, and can officially put last year’s abrupt and unexpected finish behind them.

Coming off of back-to-back national titles in 2008 and 2009, the highly ranked Orange were primed to make it three in row. However, the Black Knights of Army had other plans, stunning Syracuse in double-overtime of the first round of the NCAA tournament.

Syracuse outlasts Kansas State to win a thrilling inaugural Pinstripe Bowl 36-34 at Yankee Stadium.

With resilience, a few trick plays, and one of the best running backs in program history, the Orange won its first bowl game since 2001. At the end of it all, Doug Marrone nearly broke down in tears on the sidelines at Yankee Stadium.

“When you haven’t gone to a bowl game since 2004 and had a winning season since 2001, the first step is to create that as a goal,” Marrone said. “We needed to come out with a good performance so we could carry ourselves over for the challenge we face in the future.”

Bringing Syracuse its first bowl victory in almost a decade is a good start.

Syracuse set a record for fewest points allowed in a half at the Carrier Dome as they held Colgate to eight points in the first half Saturday night en route to an easy win, 100-43.

Isabel Menard is making quite the impression while playing for the Syracuse Women's Ice Hockey team, but with that she's also making noise on the international stage as well.

During the last drill of a vigorous 90-minute practice, a streak of golden light zips down the ice, blows past a defender and flicks the puck past the goalie and into the back of the net.

The golden skater, Isabel Menard, repeats the process three times, leaving three different defenders frustrated in her wake.

During the second run, the puck barely trickled over the goal line before the goalie swiped it away. The net-minder argued she made the save, but Menard bounced over to the coach and gave her energetic appeal.

Syracuse drops its season finale to finish off a dismal 2010 home season.

Syracuse capped off a lackluster home season Saturday as they fell to former conference rival Boston College, 16-7. The Orange offense sputtered most of the game and BC running back Andre Williams had a career day, as the Orange dropped their fourth straight in the Carrier Dome.

After jumping out to a 7-3 start and securing the school’s first bowl game since 2004, the Orange had a chance to compete for a BCS bowl. Instead, Syracuse sputtered down the stretch, dropping its final two games with uninspiring performances.

The Orange survived a scare Sunday slipping by William & Mary 63-60 in the Carrier Dome.

Last Sunday Jim Boeheim didn’t hold any punches back when he spoke about his team during a post game press conference after defeating Canisius. “Right now, we’re the most overrated team that I’ve ever had.”

Most fans thought Boeheim said it to motivate his squad, but if that didn’t work William & Mary did enough to get his team’s attention.  On Sunday, SU survived a thriller in where they only led by two points at the half, and were knotted in a tie with less than two minutes left.

The Orange finished off its conference season with a 23-6 home loss to the disappointment of the Carrier Dome crowd.

Syracuse University football has been rejuvenated this year no doubt. The clinching of bowl eligibility is proof. But as much as this team has improved, last night’s offensively stagnant 23-6 loss to the Connecticut Huskies at the Carrier Dome showed how much room for improvement there is.
