DePaul used hot shooting from beyond the arc to beat Syracuse Wednesday, 77-61, and hand the Orange only their second home loss of the season.

In a span of eight minutes in the opening half, the Syracuse women’s basketball team went from being down nine points to leading by two. During that time, Orange players pounced on loose balls on the ground, snagged rebounds off the glass and scored from all locations on the floor.

But it was a tale of two halves for Syracuse against No. 10 DePaul Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. Although they played some of their best basketball on both ends of the court in the opening half, the Blue Demons stormed back in the second half and trumped Syracuse by a score of 77-61.

The No. 1 ranked Orange split a pair of exhibition games Saturday, losing to Hofstra 6-5 and beating Le Moyne 10-5.

The last time Syracuse played in the Carrier Dome, Army used physicality and double overtime to pull a stunning upset. After an all-to-long offseason, the Orange players were ready and eager to begin avenging the loss.

“It was nice to be back in here and wash away the bad memories,” SU goalie John Galloway said. “It’s out of the memory bank. Now it’s time to focus on 2011.”

Syracuse avoided the first-ever five game losing streak in the Jim Boeheim era with a 66-58 road victory Wednesday night over the No. 7 Connecticut Huskies.

In the first half it was a seemingly familiar story for the Syracuse men’s basketball team, as SU struggled with poor defense and some bad shots. The Orange missed their first six shots, committed four fouls and turned the ball over three times before finally scoring their first points of the night. Syracuse rebounded though, and went on to grab its first win at Connecticut since 1997, 66-58.

Syracuse announced the addition of 27 student-athletes Wednesday, as most recruits announced their commitments on National Signing Day.

Punxsutawney Phil saw more than just his shadow Wednesday. He also saw the future of SU football, as Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone announced the addition of 27 new recruits on National Signing Day.

Eleven of those recruits are New York natives, a statistic that Marrone was happy with as he tries to get Syracuse back into traditional recruiting areas.

South Florida had no answer for the Orange attack Saturday as Syracuse jumped out early and rolled to a 78-57 victory.

On the first play of the Syracuse women’s basketball game Saturday, guard Tasha Harris passed the ball to Iasia Hemingway waiting in the low post. Hemingway spun and shot the ball into the basket. It was a play that Syracuse repeated often with great effect.

Syracuse continued its dominance on the boards to beat Pittsburgh 69-60 at the Carrier Dome.

Entering Wednesday night’s game versus Pittsburgh, the Syracuse women’s basketball team was ranked first in the nation in rebounding margin. The Orange relied once again on their defensive prowess, as they  beat the Panthers 69-60.

Syracuse out-rebounded the Panthers by a 50-36 margin, in a game dominated by physical play. Four Orange players had eight or more rebounds each.

Jeremy Hazell got hot early and poured in 28 points to help Seton Hall rout Syracuse at home and push the Orange's losing streak to three.

With 6:14 left in the second half the Syracuse faithful had seen enough. Jeremy Hazell had just converted a three-point play off of a fast break putting Seton Hall up by 24. Most of the 21,950 in attendance headed to the exits in disdain as Hazell hosted his own coming out party in the Dome, leading the Pirates to a 90-68 win.

Villanova used hot shooting early and free throw shooting down the stretch to hand the No. 3 Orange their second consecutive loss.

Syracuse’s motto this year is “Unfinished Business.” Following an 11 point loss to No. 7 Villanova in front of the second largest on-campus crowd in NCAA history, the Orange are certainly grasping the full meaning of that phrase.

All eyes will be on the No. 1 ranked SU men's lacrosse team as the Orange aim for a third national championship in four years.

February cannot come fast enough for the Syracuse men’s lacrosse team. That’s when the Orange kick off the 2011 season, and can officially put last year’s abrupt and unexpected finish behind them.

Coming off of back-to-back national titles in 2008 and 2009, the highly ranked Orange were primed to make it three in row. However, the Black Knights of Army had other plans, stunning Syracuse in double-overtime of the first round of the NCAA tournament.
