Let’s face it – the first few weeks back after Spring Break is tough. Do your professors honestly believe you did any work during your time off, or that you'll be more inclined to do work now? Most students either spend their vacations back home, sleeping in past noon or relaxing somewhere much warmer and sunnier than Syracuse. While you were in those more temperate climates you may have noticed a certain hint of spring wardrobes making their first appearances of the year. This means bright, mix-matched colors, lighter fabrics and more skin.

A SU photojournalism senior shares the heartache, rage and raw emotions that have enveloped her past two years since her 18-year-old brother died.

I had my brother, Lucas Robert Reiss, for 18 years, five months and four days. I lost him on January 9, 2009, at 2:10 p.m. to a negligent truck driver on Ortega Highway.

That Friday afternoon one impatient trucker crossed the double-yellow line in an attempt to pass slower traffic, running my brother on his motorcycle off the road and into the guardrail. While it may not compare to the bigger cities like New York City or Philadelphia, Syracuse still has a thriving skate scene. With three parks within 10 minutes of Syracuse University and others within an hours drive, it’s easy to find a park that fits your needs, year-round.

Brandon Gomez, a Syracuse University media studies graduate student and skateboard enthusiast, was also one of the skateboarders who helped create the skate park at Ormond Spencer Park in Syracuse.

Don't confuse spelunking with caving. Jaclyn Mace will be peeved if you do.

"Spelunking is a bunch of people in bike helmets and hand-held flashlights," said Mace, who is caving chair for the Syracuse University Outing Club. "Caving is unlike any environment you've ever experienced before."
