Alexis Ohanian entertained and imparted entrepreneurial advice Tuesday to students, faculty and community members at the iSchool talk.

A crowd of more than 200 people gathered Tuesday in the Syracuse University Sheraton to hear Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian speak about Internet entrepreneurship.

From the moment Ohanian opened his mouth, the audience erupted in laughter.

“I’ve already gotten this thing off to, I think, a pretty good start,” he said. “Now I should talk about mascots.”

Ohanian is known for drawing cute mascots for every startup he helps create. Syracuse University’s mascot Otto the Orange attended the event.

Jayson Stark '73, Tim Kurkjian and Dan Shulman shared their paths to sports reporting and advice to aspiring journalists.

Students and faculty packed the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium Friday when three ESPN baseball personalities visited the Newhouse School.

“There are really two reasons I am where I am in life,” said Jayson Stark ‘73, a graduate of the Newhouse School. “One is because I’m one of those lucky people in the world who is doing exactly what I dreamed of doing since I was nine years old. And the second reason I am here today is because I went to Syracuse.”

From Castle Court to the Carrier Dome, SU students let their school spirit shine.

Gray skies, falling snow and slushy pavement didn't stop Syracuse University students from engaging in pre-game hoopla in anticipation of the SU versus Duke University game on Saturday.

These party-hungry SU students, sporting custom body paint, T-shirts, stickers and more flocked to Castle Court, located on the edge of Walnut park, where outdoor drinking and dancing gave attendees an outlet to partake in Duke-bashing revelry.

With temperatures in the single digits Thursday night, only the brave beared the cold to attend the Campbell Debate on establishing an on-campus smoking ban at Syracuse University.

The New York senator detailed an agenda to help women in the workplace and expand the middle class.

New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand spoke about strengthening women’s rights in the workplace in a policy speech at The Maxwell School on Friday.

“The key to creating a growing economy and to building a middle class that can thrive in this century are women,” Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said. “Without a doubt, given a fair shot, women will ignite our economy and lead our middle class revival.”

Chancellor Syverud addresses speculation about renovating the stadium or building an arena off campus

With rumors of a new arena rapidly spreading, Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud released a statement addressing the topic on Tuesday night.

Syverud made several comments to syracuse.com discussing the possibility of a new arena that would be built off campus on Monday and addressed his comments in the statement.

The NFL has selected The Syracuse University Marching Band, "The Pride," to perform at Super Bowl XLVIII in MetLife Stadium.

And the band played on!

The Syracuse University Marching Band, that is.

The NFL, with its long history of including college marching bands in the Super Bowl, has selected the 200-member SUMB to perform at Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium. Also selected was the Rutgers University Marching Scarlet Knights.

Both bands are expected to perform at 6 p.m., before the 6:30 p.m. kick-off.

SU Public Safety investigating graffiti messages in neon orange spraypaint found Monday on Eggers and Newhouse buildings

UPDATE: 4 p.m., Monday.

A person interested in making a mark took to the can early Monday morning, vandalizing Syracuse University buildings with orange spray paint.

Associate Chief of the Department of Public Safety John Sardino said that officers discovered the markings early this morning.
