The Syracuse Orange kept its unbeaten streak alive with a 83-77 win over the Iona Gaels on Saturday in the Carrier Dome.

Junior forward Kris Joseph led SU with 21 points, while freshman Dion Waiters added 12 points.

The Orange (11-0) play host to two more games this week in the Carrier Dome with Morgan State tonight at 7 p.m., and Drexel on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Syracuse accepted its first bowl bid in six years by accepting the chance to play in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl in Yankee Stadium on Dec. 30.

For six years the Syracuse Football team has sat at home for the holidays, but now the Orange is taking over the Big Apple heading to its first bowl game since 2004, the New Era Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium.

SU Athletic Director Daryl Gross made the announcement Thursday, where he was happy to reward the Orange with a trip to New York City for the Dec. 30 bowl.

For a few members of SU's football team, Saturday's game at Rutgers will seem more like a homecoming.

For a select group of Syracuse Orange, Saturday’s football game at Rutgers is more than just a clash with a conference rival – it is a homecoming. Da’Mon Merkerson, Zack Chibane, Marquis Spruill and Ross Krautman highlight a growing contingent of New Jersey natives who leave the “Garden State” to play for the Orange.

The SU women's ice hockey team was overwhelmed by Clarkson, losing 3-2 at Tennity Ice Pavilion.

The band played fight songs and drummed marching beats while fans cheered for their team at Friday night’s Syracuse women’s ice hockey game. The fans, which filled half the bleachers at Tennity Ice Complex on Syracuse’s South Campus, sang fight songs and chanted cheers that helped lead their team to victory.

The oddity in this is that members of the band and accompanying fans were wearing green and yellow. They weren’t cheering for the Orange. They traveled from Clarkson University to support their players on the ice.

SU takes to the field for its second straight home game Saturday against Colgate.

During a broadcast last weekend, Syracuse alum and ESPN broadcaster Sean McDonough shared something that should be music to the ears of Syracuse football fans. While talking to Washington head coach Steve Sarkisian, McDonough said that the offensive guru was impressed with the Orange after their visit to out west. Sarkisian said SU should be playing in a bowl game this year.

Syracuse hosts Maine in its home opener Saturday.

College football is experiencing an upheaval. It seems like every week, an upstart from the FCS is upsetting one of the big boys. Virginia Tech, Ole Miss, Kansas and Minnesota have all been victims of this phenomenon. Saturday, Syracuse will try and avoid the upset trend as it hosts Maine in its home opener.

SU puts its 1-0 record on the line as it travels Saturday to face Washington.

Syracuse knows all about Washington quarterback Jake Locker, after all, the Orange hosted his coming out party. In 2007 Locker made his first collegiate start and led the Huskies to a 42-12 rout of the Orange. Saturday, Syracuse is looking to get a little revenge.

Sophomore Chandler Jones remembers Locker's debut well as he was in the Dome cheering for his older brother Art – now a member of the Baltimore Ravens.

SU opens the season with a trip to Ohio to face Akron Saturday.

No more two-a-days, line sprints or walkthroughs. After months of hard work and practice, Syracuse will open the season Saturday at Akron. Coming off a 4-8 season, the Orange are looking to make a statement early.

“This week we’re coming in with the mentality of a big win, not just a little three point score,” said defensive back Shamarko Thomas. “Our defense stop them every time they get on the field, and our offense score every time they get on the field.”

Media Day brought some surprising news as coach Doug Marrone announces that running back Delone Carter was reinstated by the University and the team.

Media Day for the Syracuse Orangemen Football Team started with a jolt on Monday when Head Coach Doug Marrone announced that senior running back Delone Carter had been reinstated by the school. The news was a surprise to everyone including Coach Marrone as he found out only about an hour before the press conference started.
