Majority of competitors for the Orange finished within the top 25 in all events at Cornell Spring Invitational, struggle at Arizona.
The majority of the Syracuse University men and women’s track and field team participated in the Cornell Spring Invitational this weekend, while three Orange competitors went to Tempe, Arizona, for the Sun Angel Classic at Arizona State University.
At Cornell, SU put on an impressive showing, as the majority of competitors for the Orange finished within the top 25 in all events.
Syracuse continued its hot play of late, demolishing Pittsburgh, 7-0 on the road. The win gave the Orange a 4-2 mark on their recent six-game road trip.
In its final road match of the 2011 season, the Syracuse women’s tennis team dominated the Pittsburgh Panthers, 7-0. The Orange finished the season 6-6 away from home, including going 4-2 over a difficult six game road trip.
Syracuse softball had its home opener during the first warm spell of the spring, but Notre Dame spoiled the party handing the Orange back-to-back defeats Sunday.
Syracuse’s home opener was delayed a day due to travel problems by visiting Notre Dame. Following back-to-back losses at the hands of the Irish, the Orange are probably wishing it had been delayed a little longer.
On what started out as a gorgeous day Syracuse, the weather turned, becoming as bad as the play of the Orange. The two losses extended SU’s (24-10, 3-5) Big East losing streak to five games, while Notre Dame remained undefeated in conference play.
Orange play poorly on offense and defense in rough weekend against Bulls.
Syracuse softball (24-8, 3-3) seemed to be off to a promising start before this past weekend. After traveling south to play South Florida (22-15, 4-0) and getting swept by the Bulls, expectations are a bit tempered. The weekend lacked any offense from the Orange along with porous defense.
Syracuse track and field enjoyed some fun in the sun this weekend at the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational. The Orange had a good showing in what was most of the team's first outdoor event of the season.
The SU track and field teams participated in the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational this past weekend. For many members of the Orange squad, the Princeton Invite marked the first outdoor competition in the 2011 season.
Syracuse won its opening game 23-0, then rode that winning wave throughout the weekend as they swept Rutgers and improved to 24-5 overall.
Following another successful weekend, Syracuse Softball is approaching an eight game winning streak which would tie for the longest streak in school history. SU (24-5, 3-0) swept Rutgers this past weekend to extend its winning ways.
Despite playing on the Scarlet Knight’s home turf, it was the Orange who dominated, as they demolished Rutgers, 23-0, in the opening game. Syracuse’s offense got off to a fast start by scoring four in the first inning and it never looked back.
Syracuse had a successful weekend, winning two of three games. However, the Orange did lose their first conference game of the season, falling to Rutgers, 4-3.
It was a weekend of ups and downs for the Syracuse Orange. Dominating victories against Army and St. John’s, both 7-0, were slightly clouded by a close Sunday loss to conference rival Rutgers, 4-3.
All SU competitors finish in the top 10 at the Stanford University and the Asics-Winthrop Invitationals.
With the indoor season behind them, the Syracuse University men and women’s track and field teams sent a few competitors to the Stanford University Invitational and the Asics-Winthrop Invitational this weekend. Of the three SU participants that competed this weekend, all finished in the top 10 of their respective events.
Senior Kelsey Rubeor had a spectacular showing in the women’s heptathlon, finishing first overall with a personal best of 5,337 points. She finished first in five of the seven events that make of the heptathlon to round out a great start to the outdoor season.
