Kayla Treanor's four goals leads an explosive Orange attack.

Syracuse head coach Gary Gait said it's unusual to play the same non-conference opponent in back-to-back games, but his team handled that anomaly pretty well on Sunday.

Junior attack Kayla Treanor led SU with four goals, and both Kailah Kempney and Riley Donahue recorded hat tricks in a 19-7 rout over Canisius. The Orange defeated the Golden Griffins, 21-13, on Feb. 7.

SU jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Lindenwood, but couldn't hold it through the final two periods.

42. To "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" fans, it’s the answer to life. To professional sports fans, it’s the number Jackie Robinson used to break the Major League Baseball color barrier.

To Syracuse University junior forward Melissa Piacentini, it’s the record number of career goals she has scored while suiting up for the Orange women’s ice hockey team.

Briana Day struggled in the paint as Miami dominated with close-range buckets.

Less than a minute into Syracuse’s game against Miami, Orange forward Briana Day turned the ball over, giving Suriya McGuire an easy layup. While they were only the first two points in the paint of the game for the Hurricanes (17-7, 7-4 ACC), the Orange couldn’t find a way to stop them from adding more down low.

Miami finished the game with 44 points in the paint en route to its 85-71 win over Syracuse (17-8, 7-5) on Thursday night at the Carrier Dome.

The Orange's star attack nets seven goals, while the Maryland transfer makes a statement in her first game with the program.

It's a new and a new team, according to No. 3 Syracuse's Kayla Treanor.

The third-best scorer in team history, Alyssa Murray, is now an assistant coach at Michigan. Also gone from last year's national runner-up are Katie Webster (now a volunteer assistant at SU), midfielder Amy Cross, goalkeeper Alyssa Costantino and defenders Natalie Glanell, Kasey Mock and Liz Harbeson.

But on Saturday, the Orange proved it's still one of the favorites to win the national title.

February 8, 2015 - 2:37pm
The win is SU's first over a ranked opponent this season.

Syracuse made only 27.3 percent of its field goals. It committed 16 turnovers, with 10 in the first half alone. It trailed its opponent in rebounds, blocks and nearly ever relevant shooting category.

None of that mattered.

When the final buzzer sounded in the Carrier Dome, the Orange came out victorious. More importantly, it could finally claim a win over a ranked opponent following seven failures.

The ban stems from violations initially reported to the NCAA in 2007.

The ban includes the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament and all other post-season tournaments, namely the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament and the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).

The point guard scored 27 points as the Orange launched a furious second-half run to pull away.

With his team shooting a paltry 24 percent from the field and failing to make the necessary hustle plays, Syracuse head coach Quentin Hillsman told his club at halftime to show more urgency.

Consider the message received.

Led by Alexis Peterson’s 27 points and a big double-double from Briana Day, No. 23/22 Syracuse (15-5, 5-2) came out of the Carrier Dome locker room with a newfound swagger and intensity, blitzing North Carolina State (12-8, 3-4) with a 23-0 run en route to its fifth-straight victory Sunday night, 66-49.

The pair led Syracuse's stout defense during its run to the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA tournament.

Two of the key contributors during Syracuse’s stellar 2014 season will be calling Major League Soccer their new home.

Surgery has not been scheduled, according to the release.
