Vic Mensa and Cheat Codes to headline Mayfest 2017 in Walnut Park

The hip-hop artist and electronic music trio bring their diverse sounds to Walnut Park for daytime performances.

After Travis Scott was announced as the headliner for Block Party in the Carrier Dome, University Union announced that hip-hop artist Vic Mensa and electronic music trio Cheat Codes will perform at Mayfest.

Mayfest once again takes place in Walnut Park, and is free for all SU/ESF undergraduate students with a valid student ID. Guests and SU/SUNY ESF graduate students must purchase a ticket to enter for $23.50 at the Schine Box Office starting April 18. The event takes place April 28, and gates open at 1 p.m.

Vic Mensa, hailing from Chicago, rose to fame off his 2013 mixtape known as Innanetape. He rode the success of that mixtape to tour alongside J. Cole and Wale on their “What Dreams May Come True” Tour. A member of XXL Magazine’s 2014 Freshman Class, Mensa has worked with the likes of Kanye West, and released his debut 7-track EP There’s Alot Going On in June 2016. Each track on that EP has received upwards of one million streams on Spotify.

Cheat Codes are a trio from Los Angeles. They jumped to international recognition with their track “Sex,” together with Amsterdam-based trio Kris Kross Amsterdam. That track set the tone for them, as most of their records follow the same tropical house blueprint. The trio made waves as they teamed up with vocalist Demi Lovato for a track titled “No Promises,” which released March 31, 2017. That track peaked at No. 14 in Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
