SU sophomore dies in New Jersey car crash

Miles Reme was riding with classmates from Fort Lee High where he was a scholastic baseball player.

Arts and sciences sophomore Miles Reme died Thursday in a New Jersey car crash.

Reme, 20, was riding in a 2014 Honda Civic with two former Fort Lee High School classmates when the driver swerved off the road and struck a building in Ridgefield, N.J., according to NorthJersey.com.

Reme's fellow passengers sustained serious injuries, and authorities are examining whether or not speed was a factor in the 1:30 a.m. crash.

Reme was a member of the Day and Flint Hall communities, according to a school-wide email sent Tuesday. Before studying at Syracuse University, Reme was a Fort Lee scholastic baseball player.

Miles RemeSU biochemistry senior Justin Elkhechen who grew up with Reme said whenever he was with his childhood friend, he forgot about the stresses of school.

“He was full of life, constantly translating that to others in an incredibly jubilant manner,” Elkhechen said.

The Reme family asked that donations be made to the Fort Lee High School Athletic Club to establish a scholarship in the alum's honor.

SU reminded the campus community by email that services are available to help cope with the grieving process, including the Counseling Center, Hendricks Chapel, the Office of Student Assistance and the Faculty and Staff Assistance Program.
