Snow cancels classes after 2:15pm

The accumulation of heavy snowfall leads Syracuse University to call off activity for the day.

After chatter circulated among Syracuse University students on campus Tuesday evening, the final email confirming the cancelation of classes arrived Wednesday at 12:40 p.m.

An email from university officials hit student inboxes at 6:01 p.m. last evening, informing the campus that The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning for Central New York from 10 p.m. Tuesday through 7 p.m. Wednesday. After monitoring the increase in snowfall earlier this afternoon, as well as the changing weather and road conditions, the decision to cancel all classes after 2:15 p.m. had students relieved, smiling and celebrating in academic buildings.

The text from SU Weather Alert followed up at 2:02 p.m., which reminded students to check syr.edu for further information regarding the storm. Accumulations include four to eight inches of additional snow by late afternoon, with a total snow amount estimated of eight to 12 inches.
