Preview: Three boys named Goo to play the OnCenter this Tuesday

Upstate favorites the Goo Goo Dolls finally bring their long-anticipated ninth album to Syracuse

If everything had gone according to plan, the Goo Goo Dolls would have been showing off tracks from their latest album, Something For the Rest of Us, last September. A decision to push the release date back, however, led the group to mix, edit and re-record the songs and produce a freshly polished album. The band hits the OnCenter in Syracuse Tuesday night as part of its extensive nationwide tour to promote that release.

Something For the Rest of Us marks the ninth album in the group’s discography, which includes chart-topper Dizzy Up the Girl and 1995’s A Boy Named Goo, which shot them to fame with the release of radio hit “Name.” It was this release that jumpstarted the rest of the band's career, defining their pop-rock sound and shaping the group as the timelessly iconic “made-for-radio” hit-making trio.

It’s that reputation that has imprinted the Goo Goo Dolls name on the music scene for so long, and the same one that has dulled their spark over the years. In general, fans and critics know what to expect from the group, and the work the band produces is expected to have that classic Goo Goo Dolls sound. For the group to really promote the new album and get people talking, they need to supplement their sound with a stellar performance on Tuesday -- which shouldn't be too hard for the Buffalo-born trio, who are playing in front of an almost hometown crowd.

The Goo Goo Dolls will play the OnCenter Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m.Tickets range from $39.50 to $49.50 and are available at the OnCenter Box Office, as well as online at http://www.oncenter.org/.
