Nas' One World Concert absence provokes social media reactions

SU students take to Twitter to voice their feelings on Nas' no-show.

Amidst all the fanfare and good vibes that filled the Carrier Dome at last night’s One World Concert, one highly-anticipated artist that was slated to perform within the all-star lineup was noticeably absent: Nas.

The iconic New York-based rapper allegedly canceled his performance only hours before the concert began. With no notification from SU or representatives for the One World Concert on his sudden departure from the concert plans, the news took many students by surprise.

Information Studies sophomore Matt Tallman was angry at the new development. “Yooo @Nas thanks for not showing up last night. I waited 3 hours just to see you at the #OneWorldConcert,” tweeted Tallman.

Joseph Creighton, another Information Studies student, saw Nas’ absence as an opportunity for levity, tweeting “How can you skip the #oneworldconcert like that….. @dalailama is not happy with you.”

Others felt vindicated in their own absence from attending the show. Communications and Rhetorical Studies major Jane Hong tweeted “The fact Nas didn’t show up for One World tonight makes me feel a little better for missing it.”

Arts and Sciences freshmen Richard Kline took the rapper’s absence in stride. “Besides nas not showing up the Dalai Lama one world concert was pretty good,” tweeted Kline.

Nas’ personal Twitter account offered no clues to his abrupt disappearance, with his last tweet before the show praising a customized iPhone case in an Instragram photo.

The concert absence wasn’t the only Nas’ related disappointment from last night.  He lost the “Lyricist Of The Year” award to rapper Kendrick Lamar at BET’s Hip-Hop Awards, which aired yesterday evening.
