International Relations Student Association hosts Multicultural Fair at Maxwell

The International Relations Student Association hosted the "Cultures in Collaboration" Multicultural Fair at Maxwell on Thursday.  The fair became a fusion of food, song and dance as more than 20 campus and community groups set up booths. These featured the Haitian Student Association, Women Transcending Boundaries and the American Red Cross. "Cultures in Collaboration" became the theme for the 2010 fair and the IRSA also sold T-shirts with the slogan to raise money for the Red Cross.

The Black Reign step team performed along with a high school Bollywood group. Aside from the organized dance the day featured singers competing for title of "Maxwell Idol", complete with faux Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell as judges. International foods were featured from simple Italian pasta dishes to Indian curry.  A constant stream of music pulsing over the loudspeakers created a relax atmosphere as dancing broke out intermittently.

The event aimed not only to bring together SU but the entire city.  Women Transcending Boundaries formed after 9/11 to stop violence against Muslim women following the attacks. The booth offered a game challenging participants to identify the principle values of different religions. The day finished off with a fashion show called "Walk for a Cause" which all proceeds went to relief efforts in Haiti. The walk was light hearted, with fun costumes such as a 70s hippy.
