Freshly Vegan: "Going Green" detox smoothie

Recover from your St. Patrick's Day festivities with this healthy, refreshing drink

Hello aspiring vegans! Spring break is over and I am back in Syracuse ready to return to your regularly scheduled, beef-free blogging. If you’re reading this that means you managed to survive spring break. I spent mine traveling to the Big Easy and what is traveling without trying the local cuisine? My taste buds were privy to some good ol’ southern cooking, as I sampled locally-brewed beers and Creole treats up and down the Mississippi River. For many of you, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this past weekend probably meant shamrock shakes and green beer while watching the various parades. If so, chances are you, too, are nursing a perma-hangover.  But never fear, the vociferous vegan is here! Cleanse your body and get back on track with this deceptively delicious, healthy green drink.

Green Detox Smoothie (Serves: 1 Calories: 180)

What you’ll need:

  • A blender
  • 1 green apple- cut into pieces
  • 1 medium banana- sliced
  • 1 cup baby spinach
  • 1/2 cup sliced cucumber
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 3-5 ice cubes

Directions:

Put everything but the ice cubes in the blender and blend until liquefied (about 2 minutes). This may require some pulsing as well as taking the lid off and scraping the sides down. Once you have your green mixture, blend in those ice cubes to get the frothy, frosty texture that we all love from smoothies. Enjoy!

Yummy in my tummy!

This sounds delicious! A a little white wine and it will be lovely on the deck with the sun shining on your back!
