Dom Kennedy brings the "Yellow Album" to Orange Nation

From longtime fans to students who were just looking for something fun to do on a Thursday night, West Coast rapper Dom Kennedy did not disappoint.

Heavy bass, a DJ, lights and a stage were all Dom Kennedy needed to get students jamming at The Underground last night.

Larger than most other performances which traditionally book the intimate, subterranean venue, the small size of The Underground turned out to be a perfect fit for the West Coast rapper to engage the audience.

The crowd consisted of a mix of devout fans who’ve been listening to Dom Kennedy for years and those who were just looking for a fun night to chill with friends and discover some new music.

Students and security alike said they enjoyed the chill vibes of the Cali native. Syracuse University Magazine student, Darriea Clark says she isn’t a Dom Kennedy fan, but she and her friends enjoyed the show. “He did his thing… and he sa[id] bye to people, but he [did] another song, so that was cool!”

Longtime fan, Danat Habtemariam, wanted just a little bit more from the laid-back lyricist but still left satisfied. “I wish he did a little more of the "Yellow Album" … but it was a great show, he put on a good performance.

“The event went well and was sold out … people were interactive … so I felt that everybody enjoyed it” said organizer and Vice President of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at Syracuse University, Jay Rumph.

As any SU student knows, a night at The Underground isn’t complete without some lucky individuals getting an autograph -- and luckily Dom Kennedy, didn’t disappoint. The rapper closed the night by signing CDs and snapping a few photos with fans.
